TRON: LEGACY

Genre: Action Sci-Fi
Direction: Joseph Kosinski
Leads: Garett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges

To watch this movie and really get the feel of it, you will need to watch the first part -Tron [1982], starring Jeff Bridges as the main character, which was a good movie for that time. If you watch it today, you won't watch it for more than 5 minutes as the animation used to represent the grid was just crap! The idea was great, even the direction was good, but the world they bring us in, is just not for today's crowd. Even at that time, only kids could see such a movie. So first of all, let me come out and say that Disney took a huge risk to make this sequel. But it was successful indeed.

The concept was implemented in a great way. The story is light, not much stress to the brain and yet still exciting. The costumes might seem a little icky at first but that's the best they could do to bring it up, still keeping the world as it is from the original movie. It was a tough job and they did it splendidly.

It's a video-game movie. So obviously, there are lot of action games. And the lighting, if you are watching in 2D and feel that it is childish, is actually designed for the 3D effect. So if you are going to watch it, watch it in 3D, as that is one of the very few points that will make you like the movie. The storyline is pretty good too, though.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1

Genre: Adventure Drama Fantasy Mystery Thriller
Direction: David Yates
Leads: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint

This movie will render you speechless. It just truly touches the heart. When I saw the first part, I could never have imagined the maturity in acting the trio will perform with, especially DanRad. He really deserves the hats off. The story has not much of a plot but the direction is such that the movie never leaves the grip. Though this movie might be dissatisfying for people who have been watching the series as a mean to entertain themselves and just to see new special effects. But this movie will come to as a great movie who know what to see in a movie. Even the non-Harry-Potter-fans will enjoy this movie.

David Yates has just blown me away with the level of direction he implemented in the series. This movie's direction leaves that of many, many movies far, far behind. This movie will actually make you feel what the people are going through. Every little turn will feel like a twist, all credits to the excellent direction and the highly improved acting skills.

The only down-side is that they have kept all the action for the final part of the series. So this part was a bit low on the content. And the ending has been deliberately made dark so as to make people think that evil had won or atleast has gotten too close to winning and that the good has lost the triumph. So it's an usual movie to say the least, which leaves the audience in a low mood, and not amazed. So, even though it is just a tact used by the director to combine the two parts, as far as rating this individual part is concerned, I would reduce half a star for the negative points. Otherwise, the movie is definitely worth 4 stars.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Genre: Biography Drama
Direction: David Fincher
Lead: Jesse Eisenberg

Hardly I would call this a drama movie as generally drama is supposed to be a slow character mapping of some person. This movie is super-fast paced and the direction is absolutely terrific! (You can hardly expect a movie less than master-piece from David Fincher.) The three lawsuits continue parallel at the beginning and then the main two flow throughout the movie along with the actual storyline. You have to concentrate real hard to keep up. The dialogue delivery of everyone, especially Jesse, is just awesome and the dramatic scenes really make you gasp.

Don't watch this as a drama movie. It's merely a biography and one of the top class ones. The regular Facebook users (or addicts) will just love this movie! Must-watch for net cretins.

DABANGG

Genre: Action Comedy
Direction: Abhinav Kashyap
Lead: Salman Khan

After watching Salman's Wanted, I had no hope that this movie would be any good. But I was proven wrong. This was a huge leap from the degenerate Wanted. The sense of humor has increased in quality and they did add a storyline this time!

Though the story is just average, the way it has been put is really cool. This movie is entertaining and will also earn you a few giggles. The action is, of course, unrealistic, but that's expected from a Bollywood action movie. So, you can go for it, keeping the brains aside. So, if you just want a light-hearted entertainment, enjoy the movie.

I wish I could give it between 3 stars and 3.5. Coz the writing is better than 3, but I just can't give it a 3.5 as that would bring it to a different level of movies. So I have to settle in.

WINTER'S BONE

Genre: Drama Mystery Thriller
Direction: Debra Granik
Lead: Jennifer Lawrence

I didn't much like Jennifer Lawrence and I found the movie to be depressingly low. The plot, the theme is great, the direction is awesome, the writing is good too. But this was just not my kind of a movie. I didn't like it, though it's quite touching. It portrays natural life and the ending does not even make it look like a movie. It's a beautiful watch but I'm just not made to watch character mappings so lengthy.

I might not be giving it the rating it deserves owing to the acting and direction. But it's too dull, I won't recommend it to you. And that is why I might be under-rating it. I simply don't feel like giving it much.

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

Genre: Comedy Drama Romance
Direction: Lisa Cholodenko
Leads: Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Hutcherson, Mia Wasikowska

The direction is just perfect! The acting is more than perfect!

I've always hated Julianne Moore because I feel like puking every time I see her coz of the billions of freckles she has. And that old woman with such ugly skin has been shown naked and involved in a few sex scenes. Apart from those few horrid moments, the movie is beautiful. I don't have any complaints about the cast though, as Annette, Julianne as well as Mark have performed outstandingly.

The movie is very, very, very good. It moved me many times and the dramatic sequences just stick to you. It has very good writing and brilliant picturization. The film shows a bunch of family ties with deep feelings and a very keen depiction of people's sexuality. It's quite profound. It's worth a watch.

SALT

Genre: Action Crime Mystery Thriller
Direction: Phillip Noyce
Lead: Angelina Jolie

It never lets go of the grip!

The story keeps flipping towards extreme ends throughout the movie and it leaves the viewer amazed. The mystery direction is awesome, the plot is superb. Angelina Jolie, on the other hand, seems a bit unnatural for the role. The character would've been more believable if played by a male. They made the story for Tom Cruise but he refused it. But maybe some other action hero would've been a better choice. Or maybe they purposely chose a female to earn some extra points for the action sequences.

The theme and storyline is simply fabulous but the action sequences, the way she escapes every single time from the hands of everybody, is too South-Indian-ish. It does not seem real and it happens so many times that it ruins the whole build-up of the plot. So least I can do for favoring the direction and plot is reduce only half a star from the actual ratings they would've got if the sequences had been more realistic.

INCEPTION

Genre: Sci-Fi Action
Direction: Christopher Nolan
Lead: Leonardo DiCaprio

Just when you thought Christopher Nolan had done his best in The Dark Knight, he pops up again with this masterpiece. This movie rendered me speechless. A concept that had never been explored ever before -Dreams. This movie has got everything in it -action, adventure, drama, romance. And the special effects are really commendable. It's the whole package and no movie, I dare say, has reached the levels that this one did. It will simply blow you away. You can never over-hype this one.

Nolan introduces the concept of dreams versus reality. Perhaps, he introduces dreams as an alternate reality. This movie is one of those that makes your heart skip a beat after every few minutes. The main theme of the movie is based on staying conscious in your dreams. And that is what you need to be while watching it, totally conscious. This is one of the movies which can only be understood with 100% concentration. And it deserves it! So, specially take the time out of your life and be prepared to be swept off the floor.

What leaves the imprint is the ending, which is an open interpretation for the viewers. This movie has various storylines and all of them have satisfying plots without any holes. So even if you watch it more than once, it never gets boring. Undoubtedly, this is the best movie ever released till date!!

127 HOURS

Genre: Adventure Biography Drama
Direction: Danny Boyle
Lead: James Franco

A very profound movie with a beautiful ending.

This movie is a biography of Aaron Ralston, the famous rock climber and mountaineer. But it depicts all our lives. It's a wonderful metaphor for solitude and for the importance of what life means at an individual level. It is embedded with all values of life -friends, family, love, and the importance of human contact in life. And you never understand their significance until something disastrous happens to you. It is only then that you realize how much you've lost during all this time.

Danny Boyle has done a superb job in depicting the cathartic life-or-death experience. And James Franco also has done an outstanding performance. A huge leap from Spiderman's Harry Osborn to this level of brilliant acting. This movie will really make you "feel" life.

The movie is short. Watch it alone in one shot.

RABBIT HOLE

Genre: Drama
Direction: John Cameron Mitchell
Leads: Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart

Nicole Kidman has performed splendidly. There are no words to express how deep into the character she has acted. The movie, on the other hand, was only okay. It was above average due to good direction. But it's not much different from the typical drama movies out there. It's good but not fresh. It's worth a watch bu only for drama fans. It's realistic and wonderful, and completely filled with emotions. It's based on a play by David Lindsay-Abaire, in which a happy couple faces a lot of struggles when their son passes away in an accident. It's got good direction, excellent acting and very beautiful hard-hitting dramatic scenes.

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE

Genre: Horror Thriller
Direction: Steven R. Monroe
Lead: Sarah Butler

A typical psychopath story.

A lonely female writer takes a retreat from the city and moves out in the woods to write her next book, and falls victim to a bunch of local lunatics. And there is nothing new in the new the story starts, the way she encounters the people for the first time (lost and asking for directions), the way they come back to her cabin late at night (she hears noises from outside, gets up and goes out to check; leaves the door open and takes a few extra steps outside; comes back, closes the door and turns only to find that they are inside).

After being physically abused, tortured and brutalized by the group, just before they kill her, she sacrifices her broken and beaten body  to a raging river that washes her away. After a while when the group finally gives up searching for her, she returns with a vengeance. And then it's just too God-damn gore that makes you vomit!

It's just an ordinary movie, with only okay direction. I wouldn't recommend it. I just don't get why they made a remake of such movie when the original itself wasn't that good.
