VACANCY

Genre: Horror Thriller
Direction: Mark L. Smith
Lead: Luke Wilson, Kate Beckinsale

Remember that good old horror theme where a couple gets lost in an isolated land, finds a motel where the suspicious-looking motel owner keeps cracking stupid jokes that give him a crooked psychotic personality, and then that motel owner has a routine of killing the guests that come in? Well, if you do remember, then this has nothing much for you. Even the ending is predictable.

The beginning of the movie was pretty well designed as far as the character mapping is concerned. The leads portrayed their characters well and the flow goes smooth, until the regular rut intervenes and then it goes pretty much like a typical psychopathic thriller. After some time, the entire movie keeps going on in a boring manner. The only elements that make this movie slightly above ordinary is Kate and Luke handling their characters really well, and their relationship being directed in a good way. But the theme of the movie has been over-played since more than a decade now, and since this has just made it, have absolutely no hopes from its sequel.
