THE WATCH

Genre: Comedy Sci-fi
Direction: Akiva Schaffer
Lead: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade

It's a fun flick to enjoy. The plot isn't something to look forward to as it inspired from other movies, but the comedy is entertaining. It's a rare pick that mixes murders by an alien into a raunchy comedy. Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn have always been over-rated comedians, but this time they were alright. Jonah Hill is already a great cast for comedy, and with his genuine humor does get some gags out of the viewers. And also an alright pop-up into the movies from our friend from The IT Crowd.

Direction isn't what to be looked at in some movies anyways, but good writing is important for good comedy, and the team that was assembled for the job did an alright job. Jared Stern was fresh one, Seth Rogen himself is a great comedian, and of course the guy who played his part in writing the hilarious movie Superbad. So the movie turned alright as far as it being a comedy flick is concerned. Watching it as a science fiction movie is obviously stupid, and that's why it gets more and more boring towards the end as the humor goes becoming unfunny and the plot rises towards killing-the-alien element. Just sit back and give it a "watch" to have some chill-out time.

DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE

Genre: Action, Drama, Mystery, Thriller
Direction: Christopher Nolan
Leads: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy

This does not bring up the 'Christopher Nolan' experience like it did for Inception, Memento, The Prestige and even the prequel for this, The Dark Knight. There are no parallel plot-lines directed, no thrilling moments that make the hair on the hand go straight up (like Joker's character did), and neither is the twist in the end that dramatically sticking (like the revelation of Borden's magic trick).

The action sequences are great but do not bring up that heavy impact. The storyline for the first half of the movie does not play that smooth. Justice is not done for the Catwoman's character. The ending of the movie is too cheesy. The mind-games of Joker were a lot more intense than Bane's. It's not that Tom Hardy did not bring it on, he did give a good show. But the character did not live upto the Dark Knight series villain expectations. Also, no contact with any new Batman gadgets for a long time, except the Bat, reduces the unexpected moves from our superhero. The pace for the first half is low, but it was needed to induce the characters in the hearts before leaving them for good. Being the end of a saga, the speed is lowered for the feelings to stick and it worked.

The movie, overall, undoubtedly gives a good entertainment. The direction, though not upto the mark from the viewer's point of view, was great as far as paying attention to the details is concerned. The best part of the movie is how it keeps interlinking with the prequels, especially the first part of the series. Nolan has done a great job for that plot connections, and just for that the movie deserves these ratings. One can say the legend ended fairly, unlike most of the sequels that go straight down.
