THE WOMAN IN BLACK (2012)

Genre: Horror
Direction: James Watkins
Lead: Daniel Radcliffe

A remake of good old movie back from 1989 with the same title. Interestingly, DanRad plays the character that was originally played by Adrian Rawlins, who played James Potter in the Harry Potter series.

Anyways, the movie was only ordinary with the typical horror plot and average direction. The original was good but not enough to deserve a remake. The plot is not powerful at all. The ending of the movie is a feel-good touch though. Alright one to watch once.

MAN ON A LEDGE

Genre: Action Mystery Thriller
Lead: Sam Worthigton
Direction: Asger Leth

We have another jumper. An ex-con threatens to jump off a hotel rooftop while a crime is being executed on the sideline. An interesting plot but not so well implemented in the movie. I expected it have gripping dialogues like Phone Booth, but this one is a way simpler movie. The ideas used in the crime are intelligent but the script-writing is poor. It's a good watch but the end is too cheesy.

One-time entertainment.

CHRONICLE

Genre: Adventure Drama Sci-Fi
Direction: Josh Trank
Leads: Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jordan

It's a wonderful movie with a very unique take on superpowers, for a change!

Yes, this movie does deal with the old concept of people gaining superpowers from some alien substance. But after that, it goes nothing like the routine. This movie is not about a guy acquiring special powers and then starting to rescue people and becoming a superhero that the city always needed. No, it's not! It's just the experience of having them and having fun with them. This movie actually gives you the feel of having the powers, and all due to the simple but elegant direction and acting of the crew. Though the movie feels to be simple at the start, the climax is really touching.

You'll understand when you watch it, why the cinematography has to be given special credits for the movie being a hit.

I'd say, go for it.
