Genre: Drama Sci-Fi Thriller
Direction: Francis Lawrence
Lead: Will Smith
Another apocalypse plot. But just when you think you are bored of such movies and you watch this with half heart, you start enjoying the movie. Will Smith has truly done legendary acting. The direction is good too, worth praising. The film focuses mainly on how a viral epidemic infected the entire world and killed the population. The virus was actually being developed as a cure for cancer but it inflicted severe side-effects and turned out into a disaster. And we have Will Smith trying to make his way through all this with just a dog to accompany him. However, the last man on earth ...is not alone. But more on that will ruin the plot.
Now, the down side. The movie seems a bit stretched on the initial part when the character is being mapped. For a long time, the pace is almost zero. And in the second half of the movie, loopholes begin to emerge. The ending is very unsatisfying for the oh-so-long build-up done for it. It is quick and doesn't do the movie justice. It's quite predictable.
The movie is solely concentrated on the life of Will Smith and leaves many questions about the plot unanswered. Many loopholes and lack of details in the storyline disappointed me Even if Will Smith threw his best, the movie just didn't make the place in my heart, despite all the dramatic screenplay.
Nevertheless, it's enjoyable and entertaining, but it couldn't reach the level of 28 Days Later.
