2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY

Genre: Adventure Sci-Fi
Direction: Stanley Kubrick
Lead: Keir Dullea

I can bet more than half the audience won't even understand what the movie is about! Well, it's a story about evolution, put forward in a very unique and mysterious way. More important than the reviews is the story of what is it about, because there is very little explanation of it in the movie. So I guess that's a plus point for direction as more is to understand from watching than from the script. But of course, you knew that already given that it's a Kubrick.

You will get the story at IMDB anyways, and I'm sure you will surf for it after watching this one. But it felt like, to enforce a high quality direction and to really make the audience get the feel of an astronaut's journey, the pace of the movie had been slowed down drastically, and I mean really, really drastic! At times, the pace is slow enough to bore the audience enough to just walk out from the movie. The direction was great, no doubt about that, but the plot was not that gripping at the first place. It is a simple story, and just not worth so much run-time, which is around 2.5 hours.

The movie is highly over-rated and given that people are to spend so much time on a movie, one would expect a lot from it compared to so many movies that deliver such brilliance in just half the time. This movie review might generate controversies because if you like it, you will be its hardcore fan and won't agree with this. But I'm sure majority will feel the movie was dull too. I'm not bringing it too down but I'm giving it what it actually deserves with respect to the resources it used.
